Overview

This Honda BF50 (CE-2018, delivered new in 2019) is a 50 hp four-stroke built on Honda's 808 cc (49.4 cu in) three-cylinder SOHC powerhead with programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) for smooth, quiet, fuel-sipping performance. It is a short-shaft (15 in) unit with power trim and tilt and electric start, and it can be run with either a multi-function tiller or remote controls. Honda rates it for a 5,500-6,000 rpm full-throttle range through a 2.31:1 gearcase, and its 22-amp belt-driven on-demand alternator (about 17 charging amps) supplies ample power for accessories. Lightweight for a true 50 at roughly 214 lb, it repowers everything from tiller jon boats and skiffs to small pontoons and inflatables, and this example is described as running and cooling perfectly. Honda's reputation for long-term reliability and refinement makes the BF50 a sought-after mid-range four-stroke. It is an excellent, versatile choice for fishing and utility boats.
