Overview

This is a pre-owned Yamaha 85A two-stroke outboard, a rugged, lightweight carbureted engine long favored for its simplicity and strong midrange pull. It uses an inline-three-cylinder, 1140cc powerhead (82.0 x 72.0 mm bore and stroke) fed by carburetors and rated at 85 PS (about 85 hp) at 5,000 rpm. The motor features electric starting, a choice of remote control or tiller handle, and power trim & tilt (some variants use hydro tilt), making it easy to launch and adjust on the water. Yamaha offered this model in multiple transom heights, with the 20.5-inch (L), 22.5-inch (Y) and 25.5-inch (X) shafts available, and a dry weight in the 249-273 pound range depending on rigging. Its air-and-water-cooled two-stroke design keeps things light and serviceable, making it a dependable pushing motor for aluminum fishing boats, tinnies and small runabouts.
