Overview

The Suzuki DF40A is a 40-horsepower four-stroke built on a 941 cc in-line three-cylinder DOHC 12-valve powerhead with multi-point electronic fuel injection. Its twin-cam, four-valve-per-cylinder design gives it excellent low-speed torque, smooth running and strong fuel economy, and it shares the same robust block as Suzuki's 50- and 60-horse models. It runs a 5000-6000 rpm full-throttle range through a 2.27:1 gear ratio, starts electrically, and offers power trim and tilt with a choice of tiller handle or remote-control steering. A 19-amp alternator provides strong charging even at low rpm. At about 227 lb it is versatile enough for aluminum fishing boats, jon boats, inflatables, tenders and small runabouts.
