Overview

This Mercury 25 hp EFI FourStroke (F25E) uses a 526 cc (32.1 cu in) three-cylinder SOHC powerhead with electronic fuel injection for easy, choke-free starting and quiet, economical running. It is rigged for remote-control boats with electric start and a 15-inch short shaft, and it charges the battery through an 18-amp alternator for running lights and a fishfinder. Mercury rates the engine for a 5,500-6,000 rpm full-throttle range and pairs it with a 1.92:1 gearcase for crisp acceleration. The extra cylinder over some rivals gives it a smooth, low-vibration idle that is ideal for trolling, and at roughly 168 lb it suits console and tiller tin boats, inflatables and small skiffs. Multi-point EFI, a maintenance-friendly design and Mercury's broad dealer network make it a dependable everyday outboard. It is a strong, reliable choice as a primary motor or kicker.
