Overview

The Evinrude E40DSL is a 40 hp E-TEC direct-injection two-stroke built on an 863 cc (52.7 cu in) in-line two-cylinder powerhead, delivering the instant throttle response and quick planing that Evinrude's E-TEC combustion is known for. Because every revolution is a power stroke, it produces strong low-end torque for its size while running clean enough to meet three-star CARB emissions. It is a 20-inch long-shaft unit, and like all E-TEC engines it auto-mixes oil and requires no scheduled dealer maintenance for the first several years, with no oil changes and nothing to premix. Evinrude rates the E-TEC 40 for a 5,500-6,000 rpm full-throttle range through a 2.00:1 gearcase, and dry weight runs roughly 240 lb depending on configuration. Light, torquey and simple to own, it is a great fit for aluminum fishing boats, jon boats, skiffs and small tiller rigs.
