Overview

The Evinrude E40DPJL is a jet-drive outboard from the E-TEC Jet Series, built to run rivers and shallows where a propeller simply cannot go. Rather than a gearcase and prop, it uses a stainless jet pump driven by Evinrude's 863 cc (0.86 L) two-cylinder E-TEC powerhead, producing roughly 40 horsepower of jet thrust with no lower unit to strike rocks or gravel. As a direct-injection two-stroke, it delivers instant throttle response and quick planing, requires no oil changes and no dealer-scheduled maintenance for the first three years, and runs clean. This example is a 20-inch shaft with power trim, electric start and remote steering. Standout features include the flat torque curve for pushing loaded jon boats and skiffs upstream, plus quiet, smoke-free operation. It is purpose-built for shallow rivers, braided creeks, salmon and steelhead runs, and skinny-water access. Inspected and sold with a clean bill of sale; freight-delivered.
